Hi, a clergy riend referred me to your page / blog. I am enjoying your reflections. Have you written anything in luke 8 v 26- 39, please. Byes demoniac is restored or saved as NTWright comments, and told to stay is not geographically follw hesus but to tell his friends what jesus had done- It is the gospel reading for this sunday 19 june. Any thoughts about the pigs or thier owner who probably lost his livelihood? Thank you.
Hi. I haven’t done that passage, but I have written on the parallel in Matthew 8: https://coffeewiththeking.org/2014/10/23/matt8d/
Those are interesting questions, but my point on that is that it’s not the point. The story exists in Matthew’s Gospel to tell us about Jesus’ authority over demons, not to answer our curiosity about what happened to the people (or animals) in the story, or our questions on demons, etc. I think we have to answer ‘we don’t know’ because the Gospel writer isn’t trying to teach on that.
Thanks so much for providing these daily bible reading notes, Tim!
I’m really enjoying your nerdy insights, humour, and application points (for “back then” and “now”).
Keep up the great work!
Regards,
Matt
Thanks, Matt!
